Ten young women scientists selected from among 224 candidates from 116 organizations have won the 15th China Young Women in Science Fellowships Award. The winners work in various disciplines — from medicine and biology to geosciences and space science.

The awardees include Ma Yuting, Director and Researcher at the Immune Function Detection and Analysis Platform of the Suzhou Institute of Systems Medicine under the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences; Niu Shuli, Deputy Director and researcher at the laboratory of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Liu Xiaohua, professor at the College of Chemistry of Sichuan University; Liu Ying, researcher at the Institute of Molecular Medicine, Peking University; and Yang Hui, professor and Deputy Director of the discipline construction office at Northwestern Polytechnical University.
Also awarded were Zhang Xiaodan, head at the Institute of Devices and Technology of Optoelectronic Films, of the Electronic Information and Optical Engineering department of Nankai University; Chen Lili, Director of the Department of Stomatology at the Union Hospital Affiliated to Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology; Zhao Weili, associate director and professor of the Shanghai Institute of Hematology, Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Yuan Yuan, researcher with a doctoral degree at the Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Wei Shihui, researcher at the Institute of People's Liberation Army Rocket Force.

Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, said at the awards ceremony held on Monday that the winners were outstanding representatives of women scientists and called on all female scientific personnel to learn from them and to deeply absorb Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
She also encouraged women scientists to be pioneers of innovation, work hard in their jobs, and make achievements and contribution to realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
The China Young Women in Science Fellowship Award provided more opportunities for young women to display their talents in science and technology and helped them to shine on a larger stage, Stephane Rinderknech, L'Oreal China CEO, said in his speech.
Niu Shuli, who represented the winners in a speech at the ceremony, said they would fulfill the responsibilities and missions assigned to scientists by the New Era and offered scientific support to the nation in developing it into a powerful country in science and technology in the world with independent innovation.

Wang Lili, a post-doctorate at Jilin University, Bai Rui, a PhD holder at Tsinghua University, Yang Linlin, a post-doctor at Zhengzhou University, Yao Jumu, a post-doctorate with the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Liang Liang,a post-doctorate at the University of Science and Technology of China, were included in the Rising Talent Program for 2018.
Shen Yueyue, President of the ACWF, Huang Xiaowei, and officials and leaders from the CAST, Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, L'Oreal China, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,as well as the EU ambassador to China, presented the awards to the winners.
The awards ceremony was held by the ACWF, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO and L'Oreal China. To date, more than 134 women scientists have been granted the award, which has become an important platform for discovery and recommendation of high-level female scientific talents.
