He Wanzhuo
Seventeen-year-old female student He Wanzhuo is one of China's youngest scientific researchers. After graduating from middle school in Beijing, she was selected in 2015 to be a member of the country's elite program fast-track study route.
Now, she is studying tumor immunology at the Institute of Biophysics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where she is the youngest student. She hopes her work will one day be a significant step in improving cancer-based research.
Over the last two years, He Wanzhuo has received a silver award at the National Science and Technology Innovation Competition, a gold award in the Beijing Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition, and the Universcience Prize from France's National Center for Scientific Research.
Her research has yielded unexpected results, rendering useful ideas and candidate materials for research into, and the development of, antitumor drugs.
"Scientific exploration is a progressive and indispensable process, which must be participated in by the people. I'm interested in that, so here I stand," she said.
He Wanzhuo believes there is much effort yet to be made. So long as cancer remains incurable and there are still discoveries left to find, she is determined to keep going forward with her work.
