Liu Guangmin, from southwest China's Chongqing, has participated in public welfare activities since 2014.
A female entrepreneur from southwest China's Chongqing has participated in charitable activities since 2014, including funding several lifeguard rescue stations, to show her gratitude to society.
Liu Guangmin grew up in a relatively impoverished family, and at 20 she entered a factory, where she became the youngest chairperson of the labor union of its branch just two years later
In 2000, she moved to Chongqing to start her own business.
At first, she and her husband were too busy to take care of their daughter, so her neighbor Grandma Wang suggested they let the youngster to do homework in her house after school. She was so moved by the elderly lady.
After many years' hard work, she had made progress in her career, and she was determined to repay the society by helping others.
She subsequently took on the role of executive secretary of the Charity Branch of Jilin Chamber of Commerce at Chongqing Charity Federation in 2014.
In order to assist in the reconstruction after the earthquake in Lushan County, southwest China's Sichuan Province, she organized a batch of supplies to be sent to the quake-hit area the same year.
"I was deeply touched by the pure smiles on the face of the affected residents when they received the relief goods," Liu said.
In 2015, after learning about several drowning cases in Chongqing, Liu made up her mind to take action to save and protect people's life.
She planned and organized a program called Life Rescue Station and made efforts to sign an agreement on behalf of Jilin Chamber of Commerce with Chongqing water police in May the same year.
As a result, many rescue stations were established in several places that were thought to be most accident-prone. Meanwhile, she set up a series of rescue facilities including flashlights and first-aid kits in the stations to help save people's life.
"If fishermen help saving drowning people, we also give them rewards," Liu said.
For now, the Station has enrolled a volunteer team of nearly 500 people including winter swimmers, fishermen, students and kind-hearted people in society.
Between 2015 and 2017, Liu organized 169 social activities, founded 26 rescue stations and raised a total of 137,300 yuan worth relief goods. Under her guidance, the stations have saved 103 people and evacuated around 300 individuals trapped by floods.
Liu has now become the director of a women voluntary service center of the district women's federation.
"The next step is to found a Jiangnan Good-hearted People Institute and Volunteers Training Center, so as to attract more people to join our volunteer team," Liu added.
Moreover, Liu has also led women volunteers to conduct public benefit classes for students in primary schools and middle schools in the Nan'an district of Chongqing.
The classes involve rescue knowledge, mental health and fitness and how to be a useful person in society, which aim to help children better understand charity activities and encourage them to make contributions in this aspect.
