A female official went to the village of Rongyu, Zhuxi County, in central China's Hubei Province, along with her 60-year-old mother and two-year-old daughter, to conduct poverty alleviation work in March and helped the village gain a collective income of 450,000 yuan in a few months.
Wang Qingnian is a principal staff member of a department of the provincial insurance regulatory bureau.
She applied voluntarily when the bureau selected young officials to conduct poverty alleviation work in Zhuxi County in December 2016.
Considering her just-one-year-old little daughter, Director General Wang Bin rejected her application, but finally gave her permission when she applied a second time at the beginning of this year.
Rongyu is a target poverty-alleviation village of Wang's bureau, as well as one of the key poverty-stricken villages in Zhuxi County.
There were a total of 805 people from 231 households, 165 of which are registered impoverished families, including 563 people, and 258 from 82 households were still living in poverty by the time she came to the village on March 5.
When facing doubts due to her young age, she promised to the officials of the village party branch and village committee that she would take action to deal with poverty instead of engaging in idle talking.
She started to visit poverty-stricken households early the next morning and learned in great details the reasons for poverty in every household, helping the villagers make plans to get rid of poverty, after she'd visited all households in three months.
After she uncovered the main reason for the village's poverty, she put her focus on the development of its industries.
In order to promote rural development, the poverty-alleviation team from her bureau has founded two programs in 2017, one is a 200 mu (about 13 hectare) tea garden, the other is a 400 square meter tea processing workshop.
However, due to an absence of management, the workshop has been laid idle.
Wang not only connected with the village cooperative for cooperation, but also asked for support from the PIRB. Her hard work has contributed to collective tea garden management and external contracting.
When the program started up again, she started to endeavor to sell tea for villagers. In only two months, she helped to sell 900 kilogram of tea leaves, increasing villagers' income to 450,000 yuan, reaching a new record.
In addition to tea as a leading industry, Wang also worked with a poverty-alleviation team to lead villagers to develop other industries, such as apiculture, tribute chrysanthemums and edible mushrooms.
"The young woman has got a lot of brains and has worked real hard," said Secretary of the village Party branch Zou Xifang, who had a new appraisal of Wang after these months. "She was truly kind to us. She would visit us no matter who fell ill," a villager said. Her three months of hard work has helped her win the praise and gratitude of all villagers.
She was a good official as well as a good mother, daughter and wife. She would help her mother take care of her daughter and did housework after returning home after a hard day's work.
She also wrote a diary of everything she has done and took photos to send to her husband who works in the city everyday.
"Although it is hard, I have gained a lot. It not only forged my will, but also gave me a different experience," Wang said, "In addition, I have a sense of achievement when seeing the increasing income of the villagers."
According to plan, any official who is sent to work in a village should change after one year, however, due to the key point of local poverty alleviation work, Wang has applied to stay for another year.
"I know the reality and situation of the village, so I'd like to work one more year here," Wang insisted.
