A female college graduate has promoted the use of agricultural machinery in her hometown near the city of Tongxiang, east China's Zhejiang Province, since 2012.
Liu Huiting, still in her 20s, runs an agricultural cooperative in the village of Youcheqiao.
In order to take care of her father, three months after graduation Liu quitted her job in the city of Ningbo and came back to her hometown.
"At first, I planned to search for a job near my home after the busy farming season, but I ended up staying in the fields for a half year due to the workload," Liu said.
Those six months made her understand that mechanization of agricultural production had higher efficiency compared to manpower. She decided to stay at her home after seeing the changes.
"I'm able to operate all these common agricultural machines such as the rice planter and harvester. I'll lend my hand wherever there is a need for the machines in the busy farming season," Liu said.
In addition, she is also able to run machines that are controlled by computer.
"With the aging of the older generation of farmers in rural areas and the young people going out to work, the agricultural labor force is obviously insufficient, and the mechanization has become a trend," she said.
"I'd like to learn and promote the machine," she added.
With a deeper understanding of agricultural production, Liu began to search for and learn from others' experience of using agricultural machine.
In 2015, she bought a baler that can pack straws into small cubes of 10-15 kilograms for easy management and secondary sales.
She used the machine in her own field and afterwards invited farmers in the village to see how it worked.
The cooperative that she managed contracted over 49 acres of land and is now able to provide farmers with various operation services.
The number of participants in nearby cooperatives has extended from dozens of households in the village to hundreds in the surrounding areas. Meanwhile, the service areas have also expanded to nearly 1,650 acres.
Liu was elected as a member of the village committee in Youcheqiao in the end of 2017.
