Chinese writer and painter Ann Lin has been relentlessly pursuing her choice to write in foreign lands for the past few years despite various challenges.
Ann, who currently lives in Sydney, was born in south China's Guangdong Province. Due to her quiet personality, Ann has been obsessed with reading since she was a child, thus she has read more books than any of her peers.
After graduating from college in 1985, Ann had a stable job, but she was not content with her life. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of reform and opening up, a time when it was popular to study abroad, Ann applied to the University of New South Wales in Australia to pursue a postgraduate degree in accounting.
While completing her degree study, Ann insisted on writing, and co-authored the collection of essays Green Pastures, which was published in China in 1997. However, she soon hit a bottleneck in her writing career, and as a result, she chose to study painting in the hope of reigniting her inspiration for writing.
Thus, Ann began to shift her focus to the study of art creation by learning from famous Australian artist Kevin Mckay in 2004 and had some success. She held three solo exhibitions in Sydney in 2012, 2017 and 2018 respectively.
Ann achieved success in painting and this surprisingly brought back her inspiration for writing. In 2010, Ann started her literary creation again, and completed her first novel Chu Ge within 10 months, publishing it in the famous Australian literary journal Otherland.
She also spent five years creating the novel Sister, which was published in 2017.
