Xinjiang's development progress can be seen in its growing transport infrastructure.

June will see the opening of the Hotan-Railway that runs through the southern rim of the Taklimakan Desert in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

So far, several roads have opened to traffic in deserts in Xinjiang, facilitating travel and boosting local economic development.

A new airport began test flights on May 18 on the Pamir Plateau.

The airport, located over 3,250 meters above sea level in Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County, is the first super-high plateau airport in Xinjiang.

It is expected to bring convenience for local people while injecting a strong impetus into Xinjiang's tourism sector.

To date, Xinjiang has 23 airports in operation.

Located in China's far west but in the middle of the Silk Road, Xinjiang is ready to embrace the revival as China launched the Belt and Road Initiative.
