Born in 1884, Joseph Rock was an Austrian-American explorer who after arriving in western China, became close friends with the local Tibetan headman Yang Jiqing. For almost 100 years, stories of their friendship have been passed down through the generations, showing the openness and inclusiveness of the Chinese people.
