Hi! Welcome to “Unique Chinese Words”!
The word we talk about today is “The Long March”.
The Long March was a famous military maneuver from 1934 to 1936 carried out by the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army led by the CPC to combat the Nationalist Party. In October 1934, because of the failure of the fifth counter-encirclement, the Red Army force had to flee their base and embarked on the Long March to evade the pursuit of the Nationalist Party army.
During the 12,500-kilometer trek, fast flowing rivers, snowy mountains and treacherous marshes were crossed. In October 1935, the Red Army finally arrived at Yan'an in Northern Shaanxi Province. In October 1936, the three fronts of the red army joined forces which marked the successful end of the Long March.
