In north China's Hebei Province, Baisha Village was once a poor mountain village with a shortage of food.

In 1982, the then 28-year-old Hou Erhe was elected the new party secretary of Baisha Village. At that time, the village was heavily in debt and had an annual per capita income of less than 100 yuan (15.6 U.S. dollars).

Led by Hou, the village has been adhering to the path of developing a collective economy. In recent years, it has established a number of collective enterprises on account of its resource advantages. It has also launched an agricultural science and technology demonstration park.

In 2020, the GDP of the village reached 2.5 billion yuan (about 391 million U.S. dollars), the collective disposable income hit 450 million yuan (70.3 million U.S. dollars), and the annual per capita income of villagers rose up to 100,000 yuan (15,640 U.S. dollars).

Through rural revitalization, China strives to develop agriculture, make rural areas more beautiful and farmers richer.
