Since the Chinese-built Lagos-Ibadan railway linking several southwestern Nigerian cities was officially put into commercial operation, many locals now have a veritable alternative means of transportation to conveniently travel between cities.

In June, the railway linking Lagos, Abeokuta, and Ibadan started full commercial operation to ease public transportation and fuel goods movement in the country. It's the first double-track standard-gauge railway in West Africa.

The Lagos-Ibadan railway was constructed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation. It's 157 km long and has an extension of about 7 km to a busy port in Lagos.
