Hong Kong table tennis athlete Doo Hoi-kem has gone viral online on the mainland after she expressed her wish to see the flag-raising ceremony on Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

Representing the Hong Kong, China Delegation, Doo and her teammates Lee Ho-ching, Soo Wai-yam and Zhu Chengzhu won a bronze medal in the Table Tennis Women's Team competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

This is the second time the Hong Kong, China Delegation has won a medal in a table tennis competition of the Olympic Games, following a silver medal-winning performance in the Athens Olympics in 2004.

Doo expressed that she wants to see the flag-raising ceremony on Tiananmen Square in Beijing in an interview after she won the medal.

The report went viral on Twitter-like Weibo. Doo was surprised and happy that she received many comments and likes from netizens nationwide who also invite her to visit their hometowns.

"I visited Tiananmen Square when I was little. I've also been there a few years ago. My wish to go there grew stronger after I won the medal," said Doo.

She said table tennis Grand Slam winner Ding Ning offered to take her to see the flag-raising ceremony next time when she is in Beijing.

Doo said she feels lucky to be on her team, as she receives helps and supports from the teams from the mainland.

"I got many chances to get trained in various provincial teams. I was also trained in the national team several times," she said.

"I have experienced it all, so I can feel exactly what the motherland is like now. I can feel our country has become stronger and is making progress and changing rapidly year by year," Doo added.
