Sitting at a construction site and playing the Chinese zither with a helmet on, Chen Jiangshan, a young migrant worker, has gained popularity in China, with more than 250,000 followers in Douyin, one of China’s most influential social video platforms.

Chen is a construction worker who builds scaffolding, and also an amateur folk musician who plays the Chinese zither. He climbs up and down steel tubes and works high above the ground, while he spends most of his leisure time learning and practicing the Chinese zither with the help of online videos.

Chen started a folk band with his coworkers and has brought great joy to netizens. In several short videos, Chen plays the Chinese zither, some of his coworkers play the guitar, while others use a metal bucket as a drum.
