"It seems to me that China is the perfect place for a documentary filmmaker to hang his hat for a while," said British director Malcolm Clarke. "As the big new player on the world stage, China deserves to be better understood and respected."

Having lived in China for about seven years, the Oscar-winning filmmaker shared his reflections drawn from his work and life in Shanghai, and called for more understanding of the country among people in the West.
