I never thought I'd need to be tested for novel coronavirus, especially with all the precautions I take, but there I was in a Shanghai health clinic waiting for my results.
That was after a long flight back from Auckland, New Zealand, not a high-risk area itself, but now unreachable by direct flight. That meant I had to transit in Tokyo, Japan.
After returning to Shanghai's Pudong airport and being sent to a community health center, there was lots of time to think.
