Many Shanghai medical workers are already in or on their way to support Wuhan, a city now severely stricken by the novel coronavirus outbreak. They are called "the most beautiful people who are going in the reverse direction than most others" by the public. They are combating the new epidemic on the frontline to protect people in the nation. Some of them shared their work experience in Wuhan with Shanghai Daily.
Liu Yan, a nurse at Shanghai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital who went to support Wuhan, received the best wishes of her patients for her birthday at the weekend.
The three patients, who suffer COVID-19 and receive oxygen, had been taken care of by Liu. Though lying on their beds, they had others film short videos to express their great gratitude to her.
In a male patient's video clip, he even took off his oxygen mask, to say "Happy Birthday" to Liu, which greatly moved her
They thanked her for her care and hoped one day to meet again in Wuhan after they recover.
This year, due to the epidemic outbreak, many medical workers spent their birthdays in Wuhan, working in wards.
But instead, their colleagues cooked changshoumian, a kind of noodle believed to bring longevity, and found small cakes for them.
One week ago, two small birthday celebrations were held by medics from Shanghai at Wuhan's Jinyintan Hospital on February 23, the one-month anniversary of their arrival in Wuhan.
According to Zha Qiongfang, a doctor from Renji Hospital, a video clip was posted on their WeChat on that morning about a nurse's "birthday party" in the isolation ward. Six young nurses stood in a circle with one in their center, singing.
They were all dressed in thick protective clothing so that it's hard to identify any of them, but everyone who heard the warm voices could feel the deep love among the team.
That night, the medics also celebrated the birthday of a lady from Fengxian District Central Hospital at the dinner table.
