Wu Yifan, 26, is a member of the "Snow Dream" crew on the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed train. The crew members, with an average age of 25, serve on the Fuxing EMU trains from Beijing North to Taizicheng and to Yanqing. In addition to providing daily services, they also undertake foreign language services.
In 2018, Wu resigned from her job in Xi'an to become a conductor in the Beijing passenger section of the China Railway Beijing Bureau Group. On March 1, 2020, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway "Snow Dream" crew was officially established, and Wu was one of the crew members. Her childhood dream of helping in the Winter Olympics gradually became reality.
"Any line of work or post has two sides: an ordinary one and a fantastic side. We're just a small part of the crowd. Be kinder to the world, and the world will repay you with kindness." In the last days of 2021, Wu pinned those words on Weibo, China's Twitter equivalent. As always, before 6 am, she began to prepare for the day ahead: washing, putting on makeup, changing clothes and checking protective equipment.
Before departure on Dec 30, she specially arranged her Winter Olympics-themed dress, and once again recited in her mind the Chinese and English speeches specially prepared for the second anniversary of the opening of the railway.
The motto "no pain, no gain" is Wu's life creed. She continued her in-depth study of English, sign language and the knowledge of the Winter Olympics, and received comprehensive training on service, etiquette, communication skills, epidemic prevention and control, and emergency response.
In the staff dormitory, every door is fixed with famous English posters carefully designed by Wu. She also learns English via online classes. As the Winter Olympics approach, greater emphasis is placed on vocabulary and knowledge related to the Winter Olympics.

"We have an English WeChat group," says Wang Yali, another conductor of the "Snow Dream" crew. "Wu is the English team leader and urges us to check in every day. She is also our offline full-time English training teacher. Snow is white, and dreams are colorful."
Wu has changed from a witness to a participant. She has so far provided more than 30 group explanations and information to grateful recipients. She is familiar with the layout of the venues of the Winter Olympics, and has also entered the hearts of Chinese and foreign passengers.
Wu has always cherished the first letter of commendation she received on the train. The letter was written by an art teacher. "Thank you for your service and care along the way. This is my most unforgettable high-speed rail experience," the man says.
Wu says in response: "I just changed seats and poured tea for his students. This is my job, and I didn't expect it to be so touching to him."
"Dear passengers and friends, welcome to take the G8811 train of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway from Beijing North to Taizicheng." The boarding announcement echoes down the busy platform. Wu was in position at the front of the carriage.
She skillfully guided passengers boarding, helped them find seats, and organized luggage racks, patiently, meticulously and tirelessly.

The questions seemed to flow. "What is the maximum operating speed of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway?"
"What preparation has the railway made for the Winter Olympics?"
"What services are provided for our passengers on the train?" Wu calmly and confidently answered the passengers in both Chinese and English.
On the train, she poured a cup of coffee for a female passenger from Russia. This small detail broke the barrier of national borders and they exchanged WeChat details.
During college, Wu liked to listen to the song My Love by the Irish singing group Westlife.
"There is a lot of heat and a lot of light. I work with 135 staff on the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed rail to serve the Winter Olympics, with 'love to warm up the service'," she says. Her tone was firm and determined.
Outside the window, the scenery is constantly changing as the countryside speeds by. The Fuxing train cuts into wind, carrying dream chasers, rushing into the distance, toward the snow country.
