Tapping into livestreaming to promote goods has become a hot trend in cities, but the phenomenon has also reached villages. Seven girls of Dong ethnic group from Liping county, Southwest China's Guizhou province have helped Gaibao village get rid of poverty and become rich via short videos promoting local agricultural products. They've held over 800 public welfare live broadcasts and generated over 130 million yuan ($20.08 million) for hometown villagers in the last three years.

The girls, popularly known as the "Seven Fairies of the Dong Ethnic Group", shared their videos on the Douyin video app, attracting more than 54 thousand followers. They once sold all the fish fed in rice paddy fields after posting a video of rice field fishing, and moved several hundred kilograms of fragrant glutinous rice via livestreaming.

They ran the live broadcast in mountains, even when just a few consumers were watching. They sometimes stopped updating to learn more on how to design an influential video to attract more visits and get more consumers to buy the goods.
