Officials from women's federations at different levels in east China's Jiangxi province paid a special visit to award-winning role model citizen Gong Quanzhen on the occasion of Double Ninth Festival on October 17.
Gong is the widow of military general Gan Zuchang. In 1957, Gong followed her husband to Lianhua County and became a teacher, where she committed to teaching and helping underprivileged people for decades, even after she retired.
Due to her selfless dedication to education, Gong was nominated and awarded with the honorary title of National Moral Model in 2013; and praised by President Xi Jinping during his meeting with shortlisted winners on September 26 that year.
The theme song and film, which were created based on Gong's story, have also been released to laud her deeds, as well as the TV drama Original Heart, which received widespread positive comments from viewers since it was broadcast on CCTV (China Central Television) at the beginning of this year, especially in Jiangxi.
Since the publicity of Gong's achievement became well known, many Party members and officials have made commitments that they will further strengthen their ideals and convictions, and maintain their political qualities to work hard in serving the public.
Some citizens have expressed their belief in the necessity to personally follow the example of Gong, act now, and make every possible effort to help others and dedicate their compassion to members of society.
Apart from the title of National Moral Model, Gong was also selected as an Outstanding Communist Party Member and national March 8th Red Banner Pacesetter.
Gong's children have been working diligently in their own jobs, influencing and driving neighbors around them to strive to contribute to the construction of a harmonious society through their own behavior.
Gan Gongrong is the third daughter of Gong. In 1974, the 16-year-old graduated from junior high school. She returned home and became a farmer.
In 1978, she was assigned to the county film department as a projectionist. In the following three years, she traveled through mountains and villages, projecting thousands of movies for villagers.
In 1981, Gan Gongrong was transferred to a bank in Lianhua County. Despite dealing with hundreds of millions of yuan, she has never made a mistake during her work in the past 16 years.
"The spirits of my parents are precious treasures for us and this era. As their descendants, we must inherit their spirits and carry forward their fine style of being diligent and thrifty, and pass it down from generation to generation," she said.
Nowadays, Gong still insists on learning, watching news broadcasts every day and paying attention to international and domestic events. Sometimes, she writes a diary, which she has treated as a process of continuous learning and improvement of herself. She also visits and helps people and students in difficulty.
