The peony paintings created by Chinese female painter Fan Lei were welcomed by visitors during the 'Chinese Language, Poetry, Calligraphy and Painting' Special Exhibition and Commemoration Activity, an event in honor of the 2018 United Nations Chinese Language Day on April 20.
Fan, a Chinese meticulous flower and bird painter, is now executive director of the Jiangsu Provincial Chinese Painting Society and director of the American Creative Research Center of the Jiangsu Provincial Chinese Painting Society.
Her works have been exhibited at several national art exhibitions hosted by the China Artists Association and the Chinese Painting Society and won many awards. She has also participated in international art exhibitions in New York, Paris and St. Petersburg.
Zhai Ying, president of the UN Chinese Book Club, said that through vivid Chinese painting classes and elegant paintings of flowers and birds, UN officials are able to feel the deep connotation and profoundness of Chinese art, deepen their understanding of China, and further enhance the friendship between Chinese and foreign peoples.
In 2010, the UN Department of Public Information announced the UN Language Days to promote equal use of the six official languages in the UN, Chinese being one of them.
